TSMC: Expected to receive indefinite exemption from US equipment supply to China
On the morning of October 13, officials from Taiwan, China's economic department said that TSMC had obtained an exemption extension from the United States and could supply American chip equipment to the company's factories in Chinese Mainland. The outside world continues to pay attention to this issue. According to the latest report, TSMC has confirmed that it has been approved to continue its operations in Nanjing, and is also applying for an indefinite exemption from its operations in Chinese Mainland. TSMC is expected to obtain a US license to supply US chip equipment to its factories in Chinese Mainland indefinitely.
TSMC stated that the company has not previously applied for the "Validated End User (VEU)" authorization introduced since 2007. Based on the recommendation of the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the US Department of Commerce, the company is expected to obtain an indefinite exemption by completing the application process for "certified end user" authorization
The South Korean government said this week that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix were allowed to supply American chip equipment to their factories in Chinese Mainland indefinitely without obtaining a separate license from the United States. Recently, an official from Taiwan, China's economic department said: "Whether TSMC will receive the same treatment as Samsung and SK Hynix depends on the decision of the US government."
