TSMC expands advanced processes such as 2nm, Kaohsiung P4 and P5 start environmental impact assessment
TSMC Kaohsiung Plant P1 will begin mass production next year, while P2 and P3 are under construction and planning. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi mai stated that TSMC is responding to strong global demand for AI chips and other products. P3 Plant will start construction in October, while P4 and P5 have recently initiated environmental impact assessment processes. The Nanzi Industrial Park has become a key area for TSMC, and citizens suggest renaming it as TSMC Park directly.
In response to the industrial space strategy of the southern semiconductor S-corridor, the administrative department of Taiwan, China, China, approved last July that the former site of the Kaohsiung oil refinery is the preparatory plan for the expansion of the third Kaohsiung Science Park (Nanzi Park) in the southern science park, covering the land for public facilities such as business parks, green spaces, parking lots, parks, etc. The introduced industry is dominated by the semiconductor supply chain, with a base area of about 175.3 hectares, which is under the jurisdiction of the Southern Science and Technology Administration Bureau, connecting with the Luzhu and Qiaotou Science Park.
TSMC's 2nm P1 plant is expected to start mass production next year, with 1500 employees settling in Kaohsiung by the end of the year. Additionally, P2 plant is expected to be completed next year, P3 plant passed the environmental impact assessment in August, and P4 and P5 plants have applied to establish factories with a land area of 41 hectares.
The organization stated that in response to TSMC's plans to build P4 and P5 factories, the department will conduct a rolling review in coordination with TSMC's various needs, maintain close communication and cooperation, and work together with TSMC and the Southern Science and Technology Bureau to prepare for the expansion plan of the park, accelerating the implementation of semiconductor advanced process expansion and landing in Kaohsiung.
