The Apple ecosystem is developing in India, creating 150000 direct employment opportunities

Since India launched the Smartphone Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program in August 2021, the Apple ecosystem has become a major driving force in the Indian job market, creating a large number of job opportunities in recent years. According to statistics, since the launch of the PLI program, the Apple ecosystem has directly employed 150000 people, and in addition, indirect employment opportunities have reached 300000, making Apple the largest contributor to blue collar employment in India.

Indian government officials and experts who are familiar with the details indicate that the majority of the workforce is first-time employed in the 18-24 age group.

An Indian official stated that overall, the apple ecosystem has directly or indirectly created over 400000 jobs in the past 32 months. As of the time of publication, Apple has not responded to this.

In addition to driving partners to create job opportunities, Apple also directly employs nearly 3000 employees in India; In addition, the iOS application development ecosystem has created over one million job opportunities.

Affected by geopolitical factors and motivated by India's PLI plan, Apple has intensified its expansion in India in recent years, continuously expanding its local iPhone assembly capacity. Foxconn and other foundries can receive subsidies from the PLI program to quickly build and start production in India. Statistics show that Foxconn has created 41000 jobs in India, Wistron has created 27300, and Asus has created 9200.

Experts say that during the peak production capacity period from June to September each year, iPhone foundries will directly hire more than 10000 people. At that time, the production capacity will be fully loaded, and a three shift policy will be implemented to meet the demand for new models to be launched in September.
