Taiwanese media: NAND flash memory spot prices increased by 5% in August
According to a report by Taiwan Media Electronic Times, industry insiders have revealed that NAND flash memory suppliers seem determined to raise prices, leading to a slight increase in spot market prices in August. In August of this year, the spot price of NAND flash memory gradually increased by about 5%, approaching the contract price.
According to sources, the spot prices of NAND flash memory wafers increased significantly in August. The price of 512GB NAND flash memory wafers remained stable between $1.40 and $1.41 in June and July, and purchasing sentiment remained sluggish. But the price started to rise from the end of July and early August, reaching $1.50- $1.52 by the end of August.
At present, the inventory level of NAND is still high, but the trend of price increases implemented by upstream manufacturers through selective storage module manufacturers is increasingly evident. This gradually leads to an increase in spot market prices. However, the contract market did not follow up, indicating that market demand has not significantly increased and terminal demand is weak.
According to sources from the storage module factory, Samsung Electronics is taking the lead in accelerating production reduction, indicating that an improvement in the industry's supply and demand situation is imminent. However, the current market demand lacks significant short-term incentive effects. In addition, since the late third quarter, the procurement attitude at the channel level has been sluggish. This situation has raised concerns about the depletion of inventory.
As for DRAM memory, prices continue to be at their lowest level. Previously, the price increase of DDR4 was difficult to sustain, and the price adjustment period may continue until the end of this year.
According to sources, in terms of DRAM spot pricing in August, mainstream DDR4 product prices continued to decline slightly, slightly more than in July. In August, the price of 8Gb DDR4 chips decreased by about 3.6%, while the price of 16Gb DDR4 chips decreased by nearly 2%. Meanwhile, the decline in 4Gb DDR3 memory prices has significantly narrowed from 5% in July to 1.5% in August.
Analysis shows that NAND flash memory prices are still below cash cost levels, leading original manufacturers to prioritize flash memory price increases over DRAM. Although initially dominated by pessimistic sentiment, the NAND market has experienced unexpected price increases. The improvement of flash memory conditions may contribute to the growth of DRAM demand.
