Taiwan, China's touch panel module manufacturers expand capacity to stock new iPad Pro

According to the Electronic Times, due to Apple's decision to use OLED display panels for both the 11 inch and 13 inch products of the next generation iPad Pro, supply chain partners such as GIS and TPK Chenhong have quietly expanded their touch screen production capacity to meet the demand for the new iPad Pro expected to be released in the middle or second half of 2024.

It is reported that GIS and TPK, two major touch screen manufacturers in Taiwan, China, recently promised to make new capital expenditure investment to expand production capacity.

TPK Chenhong stated that they will not be absent from the new products of "major customers", and their capital expenditure in 2024 will exceed that in 2023, focusing on technological innovation and new product upgrades.

The GIS board of directors recently approved a capital expenditure of NT $1.1 billion ($34 million) for its Chengdu subsidiary, which industry insiders have stated will be used to expand touch screen module production capacity to meet the demand for the new iPad Pro.

According to the report, high-end tablets account for 50-60% of GIS shipments, but the contribution of products using OLED panels is limited. GIS will not provide LCM (Liquid Crystal Module) for the new generation OLED products of iPad Pro.

It is reported that the new iPad Pro will use hybrid OLEDs, flexible OLED film packaging technology, and glass substrates used in traditional OLEDs. It is more cost-effective than flexible OLEDs, but more compact and lightweight than traditional OLEDs. The first batch of mixed OLED panel orders for iPad Pro will be allocated to Samsung Display and LG Display.

Public information shows that TPK Chenhong is a manufacturer of transparent glass projection capacitor technology, with a vertically integrated production process. It can provide customers with comprehensive touch technology and application solutions, and assist them in shortening product development and mass production cycles. TPK Chenhong's current products mainly focus on projection capacitor technology and related components and modules.

Yecheng Holdings is a touch panel module factory under Hon Hai Group, mainly engaged in small and medium-sized film projection capacitor touch modules, combining protection glass, touch sensors, and LCD display modules to provide touch and display integration solutions.
