Samsung Electronics launches OLED specifically designed for cars in collaboration with BMW MINI
According to Korean media Bizwire, Samsung Display, the display department of Samsung Electronics, launched a new series of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) designed in collaboration with BMW MINI on August 24th, specifically for automotive applications.
At Gamescom 2023 held in Cologne, Germany, MINI set up a eye-catching cylindrical exhibition tower called the "MINI Incubator". Inside the tower, 10 circular OLEDs were arranged, each with a diameter of approximately 24 centimeters, marking MINI's pioneering use of such technology exclusively provided by Samsung Display in the industry.
According to the report, Samsung Display has further consolidated its influence through dedicated booths located near the MINI exhibition hall. Here, the company provides insights into its OLED products specifically optimized for mobile applications.
The outstanding features of Samsung OLED include an environmentally friendly panel design that significantly reduces plastic usage, pure black with infinite contrast, design adaptability, and advanced technology aimed at reducing the adverse effects of blue light.
Samsung is constantly expanding in the OLED field. Recently, Taiwanese media reported that Samsung Display plans to acquire all shares of eMagin, a US Micro OLED manufacturer, by the end of 2023. If everything goes smoothly, Samsung Display will enter the military extended reality (XR) device market.
