PEGATRON: iPhone assembly resumed after a fire in an Indian factory
PEGATRON stated that the Apple contract factory located in southern India has resumed production due to a weekend shutdown due to a fire.
An Indian government source stated that production has resumed in stages, but a spokesperson for the company refused to confirm whether it has partially or fully resumed.
After a fire broke out on Sunday, PEGATRON's factory in Tamil Nadu has suspended iPhone assembly for the past two days.
The company had previously stated that the incident "will not have a significant financial or operational impact".
According to earlier reports, after assembling and testing these devices, the electrical switches remained open, causing a short circuit and triggering a fire.
On the morning of September 27th, Chairman Tong Zixian of PEGATRON stated that there will be a peak in the overall consumption of smartphones from September to November; The fire in Indian factories is exaggerated and not true, and the impact is only on a small part of the factory area. It can be restored within 2 days after cleaning, and over 95% of the Indian factory area is not affected and can meet the peak season. According to data from research firm Counterpoint, PEGATRON currently accounts for 10% of Apple's annual iPhone production in India.
