Nordic announces acquisition of UWB professional chip company Novelda

Norwegian wireless chip supplier Nordic Semiconductor has agreed to acquire Norwegian peer and UWB (ultra wideband) professional chip company Novelda at an undisclosed price.

Both parties have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI), and the acquisition requires satisfactory due diligence, final board approval, and certain other conditions. The due diligence process is scheduled to be completed by the end of November.

Novelda has established a solid technological position in the field of ultra wideband, and the company is in the early commercial stage. Its experience is to use ultra wideband radio frequency for induction, such as occupancy detection, and complement Nordic's position in low-power wireless communication.

According to official website information, Novelda was founded in 2004 and is committed to providing the world's most accurate, intelligent, and reliable human presence detection sensor solutions. The company's ultra wideband (UWB) short-range pulse radar sensors help achieve new levels of user experience and interactivity in various indoor applications, including consumer electronics devices and smart building systems. Its technology complies with global UWB regulations and is protected by multiple patents.

Public information shows that Nordic Semiconductor focuses on wireless communication technology, especially Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The company provides globally popular Bluetooth LE SoCs and supports low-power IoT applications. Nordic's product portfolio includes low-power wireless devices such as cellular IoT, low-power Bluetooth, Bluetooth mesh, Thread, Zigbee, and Wi Fi. The company's SoC is widely used in fields such as home automation, smart lighting, wireless PC peripherals, gaming, sports and fitness, mobile phone accessories, consumer electronics, toys, healthcare, and industrial automation. Nordic Semiconductor is committed to driving wireless innovation, and its high-performance, easy to design wireless technology has been widely recognized. Provide customers with comprehensive development tools and software, as well as professional support including PCB and antenna layout skills, enabling them to develop reliable products.
