MicroLED will become mainstream, Samsung and LG plan to lead the market through high-end televisions
According to BusinessKorea, the MicroLED panel market is considered the next generation display technology, and even Korean companies in the OLED field are being pursued by Chinese companies. In the future, it is expected to dominate the market share with its advanced technology, including stable production and cost reduction.
According to recent data from market research firm TrendForce, the estimated size of the MicroLED panel market this year is $27 million, and it is expected to soar to $580 million by 2027. TrendForce predicts that the MicroLED panel market will exhibit an average annual growth rate of up to 136% between 2022 and 2027.
The industry believes that with Apple's intervention, the MicroLED panel market will rapidly expand. Over the past decade, Apple has invested over $1 billion in the MicroLED field. By 2026, Apple plans to first introduce MicroLED in its top Apple Watch series Ultra models, and then expand to other products including the iPhone and Vision Pro.
Unlike OLEDs that use organic materials, MicroLEDs use inorganic materials and have a lifespan of over 100000 hours without any "screen burning" reactions, which are also the main drawbacks of OLEDs.
The industry expects the MicroLED panel market to become mainstream, with a focus on devices such as smartwatches and televisions.
