According to market reports, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is expected to provide a subsidy of 140 billion yen to the wafer factory jointly established by PSMC and Japan SBI.
In July of this year, PSMC and SBI reached an agreement to collaborate on the construction of a 12 inch wafer foundry in Japan. This agreement was signed by PSMC Chairman Huang Chongren and SBI Chairman Kitao Yoshitaka in Tokyo. Both parties will jointly establish a preparatory company within the framework of this agreement in the future, and carry out planning and construction work related to the 12 inch wafer factory through the company. However, there is currently no final decision. Huang Chongren stated in September this year that Kumamoto's transportation in Japan is worse than Takebei in Hsinchu, so he would not choose to be a neighbor of TSMC.
Huang Chongren expressed his opinion on the beginning of building a wafer factory in various countries when he attended the event earlier. He believed that building a wafer factory is not simple. It seems easy to build a wafer factory in Taiwan, China, China. Frankly speaking, it is already difficult to go to other countries/regions, such as the United States. It is difficult to do in Arizona. It may be better in Japan, Chinese Mainland, and it is also difficult in other countries/regions.
