IPhone 16 upgrades AI functionality, chip computing power may surpass M4

Apple sprints towards AI, and the new computing power of the iPhone 16 series may exceed industry expectations. It is rumored in the market that Apple is developing an A18 chip for the iPhone 16 series models to be launched this year, which may even have higher computing power than the strongest M4 chip currently under Apple's computing AI. This means that the iPhone 16 series models will be better able to run AI models on terminals and adapt to various types of AI tasks.

The related applications mainly focus on high-end smartphones, which are favored by legal entities. The iPhone supply chain, such as TSMC (2330), Hon Hai (2317), and Largen (3008), is expected to benefit.

According to market reports, Apple has developed a powerful A18 chip neural network engine for the iPhone 16 series, which plays a crucial role in handling generative AI functions. To keep up with AI trends, Apple teamed up with OpenAI at this year's World Developers Conference (WWDC) to launch its own AI application, "Apple Intelligence," designed for advanced iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, even surpassing expectations in terms of hardware essential computing power.

IPhone 16 New Machine Attack AI

The latest iPad Pro model unveiled by Apple in May this year is equipped with the M4 chip for the first time. The CPU speed of the M4 can be improved by up to 50% compared to the previous generation M2. The Apple M4 chip is built with TSMC's second-generation 3-nanometer technology and features Apple's fastest neural network engine, capable of supporting up to 38 megabits of computation per second.

If the A18 chip is equipped with a stronger neural network engine, it means its computing speed will be higher than the M4 chip, and iPhone 16 series models can run AI models better on the local end.

After Apple demonstrated its AI capabilities, the market is generally optimistic that Apple's AI will stimulate users' willingness to upgrade. The legal representative expects that Apple will release the new iPhone 16 series as early as September, which will benefit the supply chain performance of TSMC, Hon Hai, PEGATRON, Largen, GSEO and other Taiwanese manufacturers in the future.

TSMC is the exclusive supplier of processors for the new iPhone 16, and related orders will become the largest outlet for the 3-nanometer family. Apple is actively importing its own M-series processors into its own AI server architecture, which is also expected to continue to drive advanced process usage and demand.

Hon Hai Group has always been the largest supplier of iPhone assembly, and in recent years, it has focused on high-end models. With Apple's strong introduction of AI functions into new phones, the market is optimistic that it will drive a new wave of device replacement, driving Hon Hai's consumer intelligence product performance to be more significant in the second half of the year.

Largan Chairman Lin Enping recently pointed out that the overall industry prosperity this year is not better than last year, and the number of new machine models in the second half of the year is not particularly high. Based on customer orders, it is optimistic that the delivery in July is expected to be better than in June, and the industry peak usually falls from September to November, which still depends on the actual shipment in the end.

Regarding the iPhone business, PEGATRON CEO Deng Guoyan previously pointed out that from the perspective of various product lines, the second half of the year is bound to be better than the first half.
