IOS 18 Code Leakage: All iPhone 16/Pro series are equipped with A18 chips

According to the so-called iOS 18 code leak, Apple may change the practice of using old chips on iPhone 16 series phones.

The Apple iPhone 15 is equipped with the A16 chip of the iPhone 14 Pro, while the iPhone 15 Pro is equipped with the latest A17 Pro chip. According to a new report, Apple may switch back to its previous unified plan in 2024.

According to sources familiar with the iOS 18 code, the 2024 iPhone identifier indicates that they all share the same chip family. Apple can still distinguish between standard and Pro series phones by the name of the "Pro" chip, but this is not shown in the leaked information.

The iOS 18 code indicates that the entire iPhone 16 series will use the new SoC chip system t8140 Tahiti, also known as the A18 chip within Apple. The A18 chip will be used for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, as well as iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Here are some identifiers and representative devices:

D47: iPhone 16

D48: iPhone 16 Plus

D93: iPhone 16 Pro

D94: iPhone 16 Pro Max

The identifier still lacks an indication of the "Ultra" model. For several years, there have been rumors that there will be a more high-end device than the iPhone Pro Max, but it has not yet been publicly released.

In addition, the D84S identifier indicates Apple's internal modem project, which is the iPhone 15 Pro Max running Apple's test modem.

Apple will not release the iPhone 16 series until September 2024, so early leaked code like this may not reflect the final released model.
