Intel CFO: Will continue to be a TSMC customer with the goal of winning a small number of OEM orders at 18A node
Recently, Intel CFO David Zinner stated at the Morgan Stanley TMT meeting that Intel will continue to be a customer of TSMC, with the goal of winning a small number of OEM orders by the 18A node.
David Zinner stated that Intel is currently one of TSMC's major customers and will maintain its position as a customer. In fact, Intel's current reliance on external foundries is even higher than expected.
At present, Intel is unable to meet all demands in terms of production capacity, so it will continue to implement the Smart Capital strategy and continue to utilize external wafer fabs. The relationship between Intel and TSMC is not just about competition. Intel has placed OEM orders with TSMC, and TSMC has also purchased mask writing equipment from Intel's IMS. Sinsna stated that the CEOs of both sides often meet and maintain a good relationship.
David Zinner also pointed out that Intel may not receive the majority of orders from any major external design company on the Intel 18A node, but even a small number of orders are crucial for Intel's contract manufacturing, as this will be the starting point for future contract manufacturing businesses and the cornerstone of attractiveness.
