Institution: The PC and tablet markets in Western Europe are recovering in the second half of the year

According to a report released by market research firm Canalys on September 8th, the shipment volume of personal computers (including desktops, laptops, and workstations) in Western Europe in the second quarter of 2023 decreased by 17.5% year-on-year to 10.5 million units, an improvement from the 37% decline in the previous quarter. The latest forecast from Canalys shows that the Western European market is in a recovery stage, with a continuous improvement in the second half of 2023 compared to the previous month, and the growth trend in 2024 will be even stronger.

Statistics show that the shipment volume of Q2 laptops in Western Europe decreased by 12% to 8.6 million units in 2023; Desktop performance was even weaker, dropping 33% to 1.9 million units; The shipment volume of tablets has also significantly decreased by 31% to 4.4 million units. The institution expects that the shipment volume of personal computers and tablets in Western Europe will decline by 13% and 14% respectively for the entire year of 2023.

From the perspective of branch manufacturers, Lenovo and HP have similar PC shipments, with market share reaching over 26.0%. Dell ranks third (15.3%), Apple fourth (8.8%), Acer fifth (7.5%), and other brands collectively account for 15.4%.

In terms of tablets, Apple ranks first with a market share of 36.4%, Samsung ranks second with 25.6%, and Chinese brand Lenovo enters the top three with a market share of 13.4%.

Analyst Kieren Jessop stated that although the first half of 2023 had a rough start, the Western European personal computer market has shown signs of recovery. The market has entered a turning point, with previously high water level inventory having decreased and the decline in the past 18 months stabilizing. Therefore, the Western European market will experience slight continuous growth in the second half of the year

The institution predicts that for the entire year of 2023, the commercial market will experience a slight decline, with a year-on-year decrease of 9%, while the consumer market will experience a year-on-year decrease of 21%. The shipment volume of small and medium-sized enterprises and commercial personal computers is expected to rebound strongly in the second half of 2022, an increase of 16% compared to the second half of 2022.
