Institution: Over the past six years since 2018, China has invested over 100 billion yuan in the field of quantum computing
The 2023 Quantum Information Technology White Paper jointly released by the South Korean Institute for the Revitalization of the Intelligent Information Society (NIA) and the Ministry of Science, Technology, Intelligence and Communications shows that although major countries around the world are investing heavily in quantum information technology, South Korea's investment scale is quite limited.
The white paper shows that in 2023, the United States invested 1.972 trillion Korean won (currently approximately 10.794 billion yuan) in quantum information technology in the public sector alone. From 2018 to 2023, China has invested over 19 trillion Korean won (currently approximately 103.996 billion RMB) and established the world's largest quantum research institution. The UK plans to invest 3.75 trillion Korean won in quantum technology research over the next 10 years from 2024 to 2033.
On the contrary, South Korea's quantum information technology budget for 2023 is only 95.3 billion Korean won.
It is reported that the global quantum information technology market reached KRW 25.9024 trillion in 2023, and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 29.2% to KRW 155.5112 trillion by 2030.
At present, there are 403 core quantum technology talents with doctoral degrees in South Korea, including 207 researchers, 73 enterprise personnel, and 123 academic personnel.
The introduction states that this white paper proposes a total of 106 long-term and short-term models for the industrialization of quantum technology, covering various fields such as national defense, security, manufacturing, and semiconductors, demonstrating the potential application of quantum information technology in service innovation.
