Institution: Capital expenditures in the semiconductor industry will exceed $160 billion in 2024
According to research firm TechInsights, the global semiconductor industry's capital expenditure in 2023 was approximately $160 billion, a significant decrease compared to 2022. It is expected that capital expenditure will slightly rebound in 2024, exceeding $1600. Among them, semiconductor equipment expenditure in 2023 was approximately 133.4 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 2.8%; It is expected to grow by 3.4% to $137.9 billion in 2024.
The institution stated that semiconductor equipment order activity remained stable at the beginning of 2024, and the downward trend in product DAO sales was offset by an increase in storage chip sales. Against the backdrop of cyclical recovery and increased demand for artificial intelligence, the storage industry continues to improve. The demand for artificial intelligence has become a booster for DRAM (HMB and DDR5), driving DRAM manufacturers to gradually improve utilization.
The average capacity utilization rate of the semiconductor industry in 2023 is about 73.3%, and it is expected to increase to 83.3% in 2024.
Statistics show that as of January 5, 2024, global semiconductor sales increased by 16% year-on-year and 19% month on month. The automotive semiconductor field has been growing year by year since 2021, and institutions estimate that the sales of automotive chips will soar by 21% year-on-year in 2023, reaching 42 billion US dollars.
