Infineon and Wolfspeed expand and extend multi-year silicon carbide wafer supply agreement
Infineon and American silicon carbide manufacturer Wolfspeed have released a statement announcing the expansion and extension of the existing long-term supply agreement for 150mm silicon carbide wafers signed by both parties in February 2018. The expanded cooperation between the two parties includes a multi-year capacity reservation agreement.
According to the statement, the new agreement will help improve the stability of Infineon's overall supply chain while meeting the growing demand for silicon carbide wafer products in automotive, solar, and electric vehicle applications, as well as energy storage systems.
SiC has developed rapidly in the field of power semiconductors, especially in high-voltage (above 800V) applications, with electric vehicles being a typical representative. Due to its vast market space, SiC has almost become synonymous with advanced power devices.
