Due to misleading monitor prices, an Australian court has ruled that Dell has paid a fine of over $6 million
According to Reuters, the Australian Federal Court ruled on August 14th that Dell's local subsidiary was required to pay a fine of AUD 10 million ($6.46 million) due to misleading statements made on its website regarding discounts for additional computer monitors.
In a legal lawsuit filed by the Australian competition regulatory agency, Dell Australia was found guilty by a federal court in June of this year on charges of misleading customers regarding the price or discount of additional displays on its website.
Liza Carver, a member of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, said: "This result sends a strong message to businesses that false statements of prices or exaggerated discounts are serious violations of consumer law and will result in significant penalties
It is reported that Dell Australia sold over 5300 additional displays at inflated discounts between August 2019 and December 16, 2021.
At the end of last year, Australian regulatory authorities filed a lawsuit against Dell's local subsidiary, accusing Dell of misleading consumers about the price of displays available for purchase. Dell clarified in an email statement that an error in the pricing process resulted in incorrect pricing information for certain displays displayed on its website, affecting approximately 2100 customers. Dell has further stated that they have turned off this feature on the website and are actively updating the system to 'prevent errors from happening again'.
