Apple supplier Jabil plans to invest $275 million to build two more factories in India
According to informed sources, Apple supplier Jabil plans to invest an additional $250 million to $275 million (approximately INR 21.02 billion to INR 23.12 billion) in India over the next three to four years to build at least two manufacturing plants.
A senior government official from Tamil Nadu, India, said, "Currently, they have two factories in Pune that produce Wi Fi, NFC (Near Field Technology), RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Technology), camera optics, and some other power electronics devices. Given the growing demand for consumer electronics, household appliances, and electric mobility, they plan to expand and establish more factories
Jabil currently has two factories in the Ranjangaon Industrial Park in Pune, where they produce plastic casings for Apple AirPods.
The second official said, "They may start producing plastic cases for chargers, some old iPhones, AirPods, and even some components for Apple Watches and Macs. This will be a mix of assembly and manufacturing units
Jabil will enter India in 2023 and produce plastic casings for Apple AirPods at its factory in Pune. In September of this year, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to establish an electronic manufacturing facility in Tiruchirappalli, with an investment of 20 billion rupees.
In the past few years, some suppliers of Apple's global ecosystem have opened manufacturing and assembly plants in India, while some new Indian companies, such as Tata Electronics, have also joined the competition to assemble and manufacture components for iPhone manufacturers.
Among all Apple suppliers, 13 companies including Zhending Technology, TDK Corporation, Tata Electronics, SunWooa, Shenzhen YUTO, Jabil, and Foxconn have manufacturing and assembly factories in states such as Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.
