Amazon's cloud computing department plans to invest nearly $6 billion in South Korea in the next few years
US technology giant Amazon announced on Wednesday that its cloud computing division AWS plans to invest 785 trillion won (approximately $5.85 billion) in South Korea's cloud computing infrastructure by 2027.
The plan comes as competition between Amazon and other cloud computing providers in South Korea is intensifying.
Amazon established an Asia Pacific data center in Seoul in 2016. According to AWS's subsidiary in South Korea, Amazon has invested 2.73 trillion won in South Korea since then.
Ham Kee-ho, the head of AWS's South Korean subsidiary, stated that this investment plan will help South Korea become a global powerhouse in internet-based cloud applications.
