W5300

The W5300 is an Ethernet controller chip developed by WIZnet in Korea. It is designed to meet the needs of the high-performance embedded sector, especially in multimedia data streaming services. Compared with WIZnet's existing chip solutions, W5300 has achieved significant improvements in memory space and data processing capabilities. This chip is particularly suitable for the transmission of large-traffic multimedia data such as IPTV, IP set-top boxes and digital TV. By integrating TCP/IP protocol, 10/100M Ethernet MAC and PHY into a single chip design, W5300 can realize Internet connection very simply and quickly.

This system consists of direct addressing mode and 8-bit data bus. The registers of W5300 are composed of mode register, general register and port register. In the W5300 configuration process, you first need to configure the general registers and port registers, and then establish the port connection to complete the initial configuration. In this way, the system can work according to the predetermined settings. W5300 initialization is completed in 3 steps:

Set the host interface mode to TCP mode and the bus width to 8 bits.

Set basic network information. It mainly requires configuring the MAC address, subnet mask, gateway and source IP address. Once the connection is successfully established, we also need to set the retransmission time and the number of resends. These parameters are used to retransmit data packets when they fail to be sent and to ensure repeated sending of data packets.

Define the internal RX/TX memory size and the TX/RX memory size of each SOCKET. W5300 has built-in 16 8K-byte storage units, which are continuously mapped in 128K storage space. This 128K storage space is further divided into transmit memory and receive memory. The internal sending memory and receiving memory are both in units of 8K bytes and distributed in a space of 128K bytes. In addition, the internal TX/RX memory can be reallocated to each SOCKET in 1K byte units within the 0~64K byte space as needed. When the initial setup is completed, the W5300 can respond to Ping requests to verify its network connection status.
